Stanley Omah Didia, born (May 19, 1997) better known as Omah Lay, is a Nigeria Singer and Songwriter from Ikwerre, River State, Nigeria. He rose to prominence in early 2020 when his self-produced tune “Bad Influence” went viral on social media. He is also recognized for appearing alongside Alpha P on the official Masterkraft remix of Justin Bieber’s 2021 hit “Peaches” he is signed to Warner Music Group.
In 2022, Omah Lay’s “Attention” won the Next Rated at the 2020 Headies Awards.

Early Life
Omah Lay was born and raised in Port Harcourt. He is from Rivers State’s Ikwerre Local Government Area. He completed his Senior Secondary School at Comprehensive High School before enrolling in the University of Port Harcourt for his Degree Program.

Omah Lay hails from a musical background. His grandpa played instruments for vocalist Celestine Ukwu before he died in 1977, and his father was a drummer.
Career
Omah Lay began his career in a rap trio as “Lil King.” He eventually moved on to songwriting and music production, for which he received little recognition, and as a result, he published “Do Not Disturb” in April 2019. A month later, “Hello Brother” was released.
In June 2019, he signed with the record label KeyQaad and took a seven-month break.
He worked on his debut EP, Get Layd, throughout the break.
“I started working on it in August [of 2019],” he told OkayAfrica.
To complete the assignment, I had to disconnect from social media, avoid many distractions, and keep my thoughts clear. ‘Bad Influence’ was the first song I recorded for Get Layd.
Following the break, he released “Bad Influence,” which went on to become the most streamed Nigerian song on Apple Music by the end of 2020. Lay released his first official single, “You,” on February 14, 2020. On May 22, 2020, he released Get Layd, a five-track first EP.

The EP reached the top of the Nigerian Apple Music rankings. All five songs on the EP charted in the top 15 on the Nigerian Apple Music charts, with “You” peaking at number one. Lay made an appearance on Olamide’s album Carpe Diem in October, on the single “Infinity,” which topped the Nigerian Apple Music charts.
Omah Lay released his second five-track EP, “What Have We Done,“ on November 20th. All five songs made the top 12 of Nigeria’s Apple Music charts, with “Godly” hitting number one.

Lay was the first musician selected for Apple’s Africa Rising Campaign to showcase African talent on July 3, 2020. He was awarded to BBC Radio 1Xtra’s annual “Hot for 2021” list in December 2020.

He was the first African musician to be included on Audiomack’s #Up Now program for young artists; he was chosen one of the “20 talents to watch in 2021” by the Montreux Jazz Festival; and he was awarded BET’s Amplified International Artist of the Month for November 2020.
In Nigeria, he is currently signed to Dvpper Music Group, while for worldwide distribution, he is contracted to Sire Records. He was nominated in four categories at the 2020 Headies Awards, winning the Next Rated award.

Omah Lay was featured alongside fellow Nigerian singer Alpha P on Nigerian producer Masterkraft’s official remix of Canadian artist Justin Bieber’s hit “Peaches” on June 25, 2021. Lay released a new single, “Understand,” on July 8, 2021.
On March 3, 2022, he released “Attention,” a collaboration with Bieber that stands as the two musicians’ second collaboration.
Controversy
Omah Lay and Tems were detained on December 14, 2020, after they performed in a show in Uganda. The arrests were made due to a violation of COVID-19 lockdown regulations, according to Ugandan police. The artists believed they had been set up. The two were released two days later when the Ugandan government apologized for their incarceration and exonerated them of any wrongdoing.
